Back-to-School Teen and Hormonal Acne
Mid-August through September is the busiest acne stretch of the year. Schedules change, stress goes up, sports gear comes back out, and parents suddenly want something done before school photos.
Teen and hormonal acne clients are also the easiest recurring revenue on your books if you set the expectations right in the first appointment.
What makes teen skin different
- Higher baseline oil production, but the barrier is often still compromised from over-cleansing at home
- More likely to be using harsh drugstore products, so they arrive already irritated
- Compliance is inconsistent, which means simple routines beat elaborate ones every time
- Parents are paying, so they need to hear a clear plan, not a product list
A protocol that holds up
- Double cleanse with a gentle gel, not a stripping foam
- Apply Gentle Clarifying Toner
- Enzyme or low-strength acid rather than aggressive scrubs on active inflammation. Apply warm towel compress or steam.
- Extractions with proper softening time. Rushing this is where post-inflammatory marks come from.
- Clay or charcoal mask to the oilier zones only, not full face on combination skin
- Apply Balance Serum to target congestion.
- Lightweight hydration to finish. Skipping moisturizer is the single most common mistake teens make.
Back bar and retail picks
- Daily Refine Cleanser — Clarifying without the tightness that sends teens straight back to over-washing.
- Super Fruit Enzyme Face Wash — Good bridge product for clients who need mild daily exfoliation.
- Balance Serum — Targets congestion and oil flow. Works for adult hormonal acne too.
- Purifying and Pore Cleansing Mask — Treatment room workhorse for congested T-zones.
- Gentle Clarifying Toner — Keeps pH balanced between steps without alcohol dryness.
- Refining AHA Treatment Pads — At $14.95 for 50 pads, this is an easy retail add-on for oily, acne-prone clients.
Retail tip: Build a three-product teen kit at a set price rather than selling items individually. Cleanser, toner, and one treatment. Parents buy kits. They hesitate on à la carte.
If you want to offer a branded version of that kit, our
private label program has low minimums and you can start with the starter set at $99.
