How can you tailor to your customers when it comes to selecting the right moisturizer for your retail line? Here are a few things to consider; demographics, climate, and skin types. These are all important factors when selecting the appropriate skincare for your business. Lets determine which moisturizing products will work best for your skincare business.
Demographics
What does demographic mean and how does it apply to you? The definition of demographic is as follows, “A group of people, for example, customers, who are similar in age, social class, etc.” Why does this apply to your business? You can gain quite a bit of knowledge based on your demographics. This can help you know where your business stands and how you can adjust to your customers needs. Who are you selling to, what age bracket and skin types will most likely be drawn to your business? This step is important if you own a stationary location such as a medical spa, day spa, dermatology office, boutique, etc,. This will allow you to determine pricing for your area, the type of moisturizer to carry in your retail line and quantity.
Climate
Along with demographics, you need to consider the type of climate you will be in. When selecting the right moisturizer, you need to factor in weather and temperature changes. Think about your geographical location and if your area is dry, humid, cold, hot, etc,. The weather, without a doubt can affect the skin from drying it out to causing skin types to have excess oil. Elevation can also be a factor. If you own a business in Florida, you may want a moisturizer that is lightweight due to the humidity. For the colder, dry states, it may be best to have a thicker based cream that can hold in moisture, to help correct dry skin. The weather tends to change, so you may need to have a moisturizer for certain seasons to keep up with customer’s skin concerns. This can be addressed in their assessment, if you are an esthetician who sees their clients frequently. Some clients will use a lighter moisturizer in the warmer months and a thicker, more emollient one in the colder and dryer months.
Skin Types
Skin types plays an important role in knowing which moisturizers to have in your skincare line. Based on your knowledge of your demographics, what ages do you see most? Should your skincare line be focused on aging, problematic skin, sun damage or sensitive skin? Collect data and confer with your team to determine what moisturizers will best work for your retail.
