Do you know what ingredients make up your back bar or skincare line? Keeping with the theme of hydration and moisture, we wanted to do a go to ingredient list of moisturizing skin care ingredients. Take a look at your products and see if any of the below ingredients are formulated in your skin care.
How to Stay Moisturized
Does your clientele struggle with dry, cracked and dull skin? How can you help them keep their skin moisturized and glowing? Finding the right product to moisturize will help replenish and supplement oils that the skin may have lost or doesn’t produce enough of. Provided below are some tips to consider for dry skin.
- This is always a good one to follow. Make sure to inform your client of drinking enough water. Promoting health on the inside can help show positive feedback on the outside.
- Have them avoid using harsh cleansers or products. For example, if they are using a Retinol (Vitamin A) too frequently, change up the routine. They could also be over exfoliating the skin, causing inverse side effects and not giving the results they are looking for.
- Limit the hot showers. I know, hot showers are the absolute best, but this can cause itchy, dry skin. Opt for a lukewarm shower or slowly decrease the temperature, so the body can adjust to a warm setting, rather than scorching hot. It is definitely easier said than done, but this is a good tip to mention to your clients if they struggle with moisture retention.
- If your client uses a product that has a skincare ingredient that retains moisture, here is what they can do. After they have cleansed, keep the face damp or wet, then apply the moisturizer on the damp skin. This may help some skin types.
- Create some humidity in your home. This can be from purchasing a humidifier to simply adding some plants to your household. Make sure the humidity is not too high, so you do not create mold and water buildup.
- Layering serums and moisturizers. Layering can help your client use several hydrating and moisturizing ingredients.
Moisturizing Skin Care Ingredients
First, let’s distinguish the difference between an emollient and humectant. An emollient is a way to soften and moisturize the skin. A humectant is way of preserving and retaining moisture. There are a wide range of skin care ingredients that have the effects of hydrating and moisturizing the outer layer of the skin. Here are a few that we have noted for you.
Avocado Oil– Emollient: This moisturizing ingredient contains a fatty acid known as omega 3 along with vitamin e. The benefits of avocado oil include nourishing and making sure the skin is moisturized. It may help with damages done to the skin, aging and inflammation.
Vegetable Glycerin– Humectant: Also known as glycerol that comes from plants such as; coconut and soy. This skincare ingredient will give smoothness to the skin and help with skin irritations. This ingredient alone is known to be added to baths to give a better moisturizing effect to the skin.
Apricot Kernel Oil– Emollient/Humectant: The oil is derived from using the cold press method from the apricot seeds. Apricot Kernel oil contains Vitamin E, C and A which can help to protect and replenish the skin barrier. These vitamins can help the skin by fighting against free radicals.
Vitamin E– Emollient/Humectant: Vitamin E is used in skincare due to its antioxidant properties and nourishing effects. Since it has antioxidant properties it may help to fight against free radical such as; air pollution and UV rays (sunlight). Vitamin e not only works to moisturize the skin but it may help with scarring and calming the skin down.
Cranberry Seed Extract– Emollient: We know that red fruits are great antioxidants for the body, which leads us to cranberry seed extract. This fruit is packed with antioxidants including Vitamin e, c and a. It contains omega fatty acids to moisturize the skin leaving it smooth and supple.
