There is no way to safely tan in UV Light. All tans damage the skin. When ultraviolet rays penetrate the skin, production of melanin increases as a response to the injury. Many believe that tanning beds are the safer way to tan the skin. Many companies advertise having “safe” equipment. The amount of radiation produced from indoor tanning is similar to the sun and sometimes is even stronger. Studies have shown that UV radiation during indoor tanning damaged DNA in the skin cells. Exposure over time of UV light both indoor and outdoor can change the texture of the skin and increase aging. The damage accumulates over time and risk of skin cancer also increases.
