What is Micellar Cleansing Water and how do I use it?

When you first come across the word “micellar” your first thought may be “What the heck is that and am I pronouncing this right?”. Same! Pronounced mi-cel-lar, this cleansing water has been used in France for decades. Although it’s been sold in the U.S. for quite some time now, it wasn’t until recently that major companies started to really market this product. This three in one product removes makeup, cleanses AND tones!

BUT WHAT IS IT?

To try and make it as simple as possible, micellar water is made up of micelles (or small balls of oil molecules) that hang around in soft water. These micelles are attracted to dirt and oil which is what is doing the cleansing. But water and oil do not mix? You’re right, they do not. The key to this product is a mild surfactant which is a substance that reduces the surface tension of a liquid in which it is dissolved. Basically, it is going to REALLY cleanse your skin. It is gentle enough for my sensitive gals and guys and for acne prone skin. Not to mention that Aesthetic Back Bar’s micellar water includes lavender which is great for anyone who has a little inflammation from breakouts.

SO HOW DO I USE THIS STUFF?

It’s simple! All you have to do is pour a little of the micellar cleansing water onto a cotton round, wipe down the skin, toss the cotton round into the trash and go on about your day. You do not have to rinse! I know, crazy huh? Micellar water can be used for multiple things such as:

  • gently removing makeup
  • before makeup application (for my makeup artist who aren’t too sure if their client cleansed their face before hand)
  • erasing makeup mistakes (the winged liner has never been so simple!)
  • cleaning makeup brushes
  • gently cleansing lash extension OR removing the adhesive from your strip lashes
  • pre-cleanse or double cleanse

Micellar water is great for my mothers or busy business women that are on the go, my frequent flyers who just do not have time in between flights to wash their face, my amazing makeup artist, skincare professionals who love to take that extra step to make sure their clients skin is squeaky clean, my fitness and gym lovers who need a little refreshment right after a great workout, and basically for ANYONE. It is an absolute great beauty tool to have around and can come in handy for my Estheticians with clients who do not always have time to remove their full coverage foundation before their appointment. This will definitely keep you from fighting with an oily makeup remover that sometimes just moves the product around instead of removing it. Your clients can no longer use the “I was too tired and didn’t feel like washing my face before bed” excuse. Simply tell your client to leave this cleansing water on top of their nightstand with some cotton rounds and they will never go to bed with a dirty face again!
